Grounded Leadership Tips for the Back-to-School Season
The emails are flying in, the “quick” meetings aren’t so quick, and somehow it’s still July but your brain is already in October. Welcome to back-to-school season, the annual whirlwind of logistics, last-minute shifts, and leadership on fast forward.
It’s tempting to go into superhero mode. To power through. To say “yes” to everything and take care of everyone else first.
But let me offer a different way to begin this year.
Not by doing more. But by showing up differently.
Because your team doesn’t need a superhero. They need a steady, human leader who knows how to pause before reacting. A leader who remembers what matters, especially when the noise gets loud. A leader who starts grounded.
What if the bravest thing you do this year is breathe first?
I’m there with you: the back-to-school leadership hustle. It’s a season that demands everything from systems planning to emotional support, often before the first bell even rings. And I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way; hello, months of eye twitching!)) that the way I begin the year shapes everything that follows.
That’s why I created a free reflection resource designed specifically for this season.
It’s called Leading with Intention: Seven Reflection Prompts for a Grounded Start to the School Year, and it’s not your average checklist.
This guide invites you to pause and reconnect with:
–what you’re carrying into the year (on purpose or by default),
–who you want to pour into (beyond your title),
–how you’ll stay fueled (so you don’t burn out by October),
–and what legacy you’re building with each intentional choice.
It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being present. It’s about being intentional. It’s having guiding principles that keep you grounded when it’s not just a dumpster on fire, but it’s leapt out and caught your hair on fire.
You don’t need a week off to reset (and let’s be honest, no one in our positions can take a week off now). You need five quiet minutes and a little intention.
Inside the guide, you’ll find seven prompts that work whether you’re leading a classroom, a cabinet team, or an entire district. Plus, a bonus reset tool for those days when you’re running on fumes.
If you’re ready to start not just strong, but grounded this year, this one’s for you.

Because leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about asking better questions, especially of yourself.
And this year? I’m starting with these.
